Short answer

Somewhat. Berlin is not cheap, but not extreme. Across Germany, restaurant and hotel prices are 112.1% of the EU average (Eurostat, 2024, a national figure). That is above Italy and Spain, but below the Netherlands. In Berlin, two people pay about €983 for 4 nights at mid-range. That is €123 per person per night. A budget trip comes to roughly €799; a comfort trip, roughly €1,955. Of what we measured, the star class moves the price most, then the month. A 4-star room was advertised at €77 to €81 a night from December to February, and at €124 in June (per room per night, 2 adults). Flights, breakfast, drinks and the accommodation tax are extra.

Six ways to spend less in Berlin

  • For a 4-star room, go between December and February. A 4-star room was advertised at €77 to €81 a night in those months. In June it was €124 (per room, 2 adults).
  • Buy a day ticket from your third ride. One ride in zones A and B costs €4 per person. A day ticket costs €11.20. So it pays off from ride number 3.
  • Take the train from BER. A single ticket for zones A, B and C costs €5 per person and covers the airport. Note that the AB day ticket does not reach BER.
  • Keep your cheap meals cheap. Guides put street food and simple meals at about €9 per person. A mid-range restaurant meal is about €21.
  • Start with the free sights. The East Side Gallery and the outdoor Wall sites are free to see from the street; check the official pages for current rules. A guided Wall tour starts at a median €26 per person. Plan your route with our page on the Wall Berlin sites.
  • Check the Saturday price too. On the August Tuesday and Saturday we read, 77% of hotel pairs were dearer on the Saturday. On the March pair, only 16% were. That is one pair of dates per month, so compare both nights for your own dates.

This study leaves out flights, since their price hangs on your home airport and your dates.

What a Berlin trip costs for two

Two people at mid-range should budget €777 for a 3-night stay, €983 for 4 nights, €1,188 for 5 nights and €1,599 for a week of 7 nights, flights not included. A trip of 5 nights comes to about €594 per person.

Each row is the same 4-night trip for two, at any time of year. You share one room. Each of you eats 2 meals out a day, with no breakfast or drinks. Each of you takes two tours, buys a day ticket every day and rides the train to and from BER. In comfort, one meal a day is a set tasting menu. The budget style saves mostly on food: Google's 3-star filter showed dearer hotels than its main list, so the budget hotel line is likely on the high side. The accommodation tax is not in these totals.

By month and star class

Google does not show the same hotels on every date. That is why a month is only set against the same star class, for example 4-star in January and 4-star in June. December, January and February came out almost the same, so treat them as one cheap season. Late spring to early autumn cost more. We rank the 11 months in the table.

About these numbers

All figures are medians for one room and 2 adults per night, taken from Google Hotels on our reading day. Prices for later dates can change before you book. The three star classes are built three ways. The 3-star figures come from a search filtered to 3-star hotels. The 4-star figures come from Google's main list. The 5-star figures pool both. So compare months within a class, not one class with another. Google's 3-star filter shows dearer hotels than the 3-star hotels in its main list. The 5-star figures rest on Google's label for a small group of hotels, 11 to 14 prices a month.

Weekday or weekend?

3-star 0% median Saturday price against the Tuesday before, 237 pairs
4-star 0% median Saturday price against the Tuesday before, 55 pairs
5-star 0% median Saturday price against the Tuesday before, 73 pairs
How we compared weekends

We paired the same hotel on a Tuesday and the Saturday after it, in the same month (644 pairs). We found no clear weekend premium. The Saturday was dearer in 47% of pairs, and the same or cheaper in the rest. The median gap was 0%. It changed by month. In August, 77% of pairs cost more on the Saturday; in March, 16% did. Each month has only one pair of nights, so single months swing a lot.

Each month rests on one Tuesday and one Saturday read once, between three weeks and eleven months ahead, so season and booking lead time both play a part, and the hotels priced differ from night to night.
  2. €99 for the middle 4-star night, per room for two adults.
Across all 22 nights we read, from November 2026 to September 2027, the 282 advertised 4-star prices (45 hotels) had a median of €99 per room per night for 2 adults, with the middle half between €79 and €119.
  3. 47% of hotels asked more on a Saturday than the Tuesday before: no clear weekend premium.

  4. €260 for the middle 5-star night, by Google's own star label.
Google labelled 7 Berlin hotels 5-star for our dates (Google's own star label, 11 to 14 prices a month); their 149 advertised prices had a median of €260 per room per night for 2 adults.
  5. 112.1% of the EU average for restaurant and hotel prices across Germany.
Restaurant and hotel prices across Germany were 112.1% of the EU average in 2024, the latest year Eurostat has published for its price level index (EU = 100). This is a national figure, not Berlin alone. Published guides from 2024 to 2026 put a cheap meal in Berlin at about €9 per person, a mid-range restaurant meal at about €21 and a fine-dining meal at about €62, before drinks (medians of three cited sources per level, not our measurement).
  6. €11.20 for an AB day ticket, which pays off from the third ride.
A single BVG ride in Berlin's fare zones A and B costs €4 and a day ticket €11.20, so the day ticket pays off from the third ride; a single ticket for zones A, B and C, which covers BER airport, costs €5 (official fares read 28 October 2026; fares can change). Method, data and reuse

What we measured ourselves

  • Hotels: 2,427 prices of 404 hotels on Google Hotels, read on 27 October 2026. One Tuesday and one Saturday night per month, November 2026 to September 2027, 2 adults, one room; paid ads, listings without a price and duplicates left out. These are the prices advertised for those dates when we read them, not what guests later paid. Months are compared within a star class because Google shows a different set of hotels for each date. Star classes: Google's default hotel list for Berlin labels only about a third of its hotels with a star class: 3-14 three-star and 4-9 five-star prices a month (after the deeper reads), too few to compare months within those classes; so we added one extra Google Hotels search per night filtered to 3-star (depth 20; 36 listings, 21-32 new priced 3-star hotels per night) and one filtered to 5-star (depth 20; Google listed 7 five-star hotels per night), same dates, 2 adults, one room; only hotels Google labels with that class are kept, and hotels already in the main search for that date are not counted twice (677 of the 2,427 prices). These count for the 3-star figures from the 3-star-filtered rows alone in every month (main-search 3-star rows stay in the all-hotel figures); the 5-star figures pool the main-search and filtered 5-star rows in every month; the all-hotel figures, the 4-star figures and month sample sizes use the main search alone: the all-hotel median rests on 1,750 prices.
  • Activities: the "from" prices of the 104 tours and tickets on our 16 activity pages (the table above), as shown on GetYourGuide on 27 October 2026; the calculator offers 12 tours, one per activity page. A "from" price is the lowest option a listing offers, not a typical price.

What we cite

  • Meals, drinks and car hire: figures published by travel guides, food-tour companies and rental platforms, found through Google searches in Germany and quoted word for word with their date. A range counts with its midpoint, each source once per group. No figures from forums or social media. Each meal level rests on 3 sources, and some show no date, so read the meal prices as a guide. None comes from a page that shows a date in 2022 or earlier; many pages show no date at all.
  • Accommodation tax, fares: the Berlin Senate Department for Finance, berlin.de.
  • Price level: Eurostat, price level index for restaurants and hotels (EU = 100), 2024.

How the calculator adds up

  • Our default trip: 4 nights for a couple sharing a room, mid-range style, no month picked. For the room we take the middle value of every 4-star price in the study (€99), so no single season. Each person eats two mid-range meals out a day at €21. Each person takes two tours from our list, at each tour's lowest listed price (an example, not an average; the same in every style): Berlin: East Side Gallery Spree Cruise in a Solar Catamaran (€27) and Berlin: Sightseeing Tour in Classic Volkswagen T1 Samba Bus (€44). Flights, a car and entry fees are not included.
  • Hotel: nights × rooms (one per two travellers) × the median for the style's star class in that month (or the whole year).
  • Eating out: nights × travellers × meals a day at the style's meal price; in comfort, one fine dinner a day and the other meals at mid-range prices.
  • Car: days × the style's daily price. Activities: the from-price per person or per group.
  • Accommodation tax: not in the totals. Berlin charges 7.5% of the room price before VAT and extras, and we cannot tell if Google's prices already hold it.
  • Transport: nights × travellers × the AB day ticket (€11.20). Airport: two ABC single tickets per traveller (€5 each), one there and one back. The AB day ticket does not cover BER.

Each line is rounded to whole euros.
