Christmas Market Berlin: Six Markets for 2026
Your Berlin Christmas market visit can start on 23 November 2026, when Gendarmenmarkt, Charlottenburg Palace and Alexanderplatz open, and most markets run until late December. Berlin has dozens of markets, so the six below are the central ones with dates from official pages. Each entry says when it runs and what to expect, and the sections after them help you choose one and plan where to stay.
Every Christmas market in Berlin differs in setting, length and price, so the entries below are in the order most visitors meet them.
1. Gendarmenmarkt: the market with the entry fee and the free hours
The WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt runs from 23 November to 31 December 2026, according to visitBerlin. It opens 11:00 to 22:00 Sunday to Thursday and 11:00 to 23:00 on Friday and Saturday. On 24 December it is open 12:00 to 18:00.
Gendarmenmarkt is the one market here that charges to get in. Entry is €2, children under 12 go in free, and everyone enters free from Monday to Friday between 11:00 and 14:00, except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December. The free weekday window is the easiest time to go without paying. For the other five markets in this guide, the pages we checked state no entry fee, so we cannot call them free.
The sources we checked do not name the nearest station, so check the BVG journey planner for your hotel.
Key Takeaway Gendarmenmarkt costs €2 to enter, but it is free on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00, except 24, 25, 26 and 31 December.
2. Charlottenburg Palace: a lit-up palace in the west
The Charlottenburg Palace market runs from 23 November to 27 December 2026, according to visitBerlin's market list. The address is Spandauer Damm 22, 14059 Berlin. The list describes a brightly lit palace, a Christmas market orchestra and heated food tents.
The page does not say whether entry is free, and it gives no daily hours. Check the market's own page before you go.
Winter in Berlin is often around freezing, according to visitBerlin, so heated tents are a good place to try a few dishes. visitBerlin also names waffles and hot mulled wine as the smell of the season, but no page we checked lists dishes for each market.
For families, the official pages list the rides and shows at other markets, not at the palace. The City of Berlin names a Ferris wheel and carousels at Alexanderplatz, and an ice rink, puppeteers and storytellers at the Rotes Rathaus. visitBerlin names historic fairground rides at the Humboldt Forum. No page ranks the markets for families. A berlin food tour is worth a look if you would rather have a guide pick them for you, and it runs all year, not only in Advent.
3. Alexanderplatz: the central market near the TV Tower
The Alexanderplatz market runs from 23 November to 26 December 2026, according to visitBerlin. The stalls cluster around the Fountain of Friendship Between Nations. The City of Berlin's own market page still lists "not yet announced" for this market, so confirm the dates close to your trip.
Alexanderplatz has S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations. The TV Tower entrance is opposite the S-Bahn station, so you can see the tower and the market in one trip. The pages we checked give no entry fee or hours for this market.
4. Humboldt Forum: an early start in the historic centre
The Wintermarkt at the Humboldt Forum runs from 18 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, the City of Berlin says. That is the longest season of the six, and it starts first. The market sits on Schlossplatz and in the Schlüterhof of the Berliner Schloss.
The U5 stops at Museumsinsel, which is the nearest metro station on the line, according to the BVG route overview. Hours and entry are not published on the pages we checked.
5. Rotes Rathaus: a market beside the red town hall
The market at the Rotes Rathaus runs from 23 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, according to the City of Berlin. Like the Humboldt Forum, it stays open into the new year. The U5 has a station called Rotes Rathaus, and the next stop is Alexanderplatz, so the two markets are easy to combine.
No hours or entry fee are listed on the page we checked. Plan for evening visits, when the lights are on.
6. Spandau old town: a market outside the centre
The Christmas market in Spandau's old town runs from 23 November to 22 December 2026, the City of Berlin says. A second event, the Spandauer Winterland, runs from 13 November to 27 December 2026 on the former post office site and has a fairground feel.
Spandau is a trip out of the centre, so it suits you best if you stay in the west or have time for a second evening. The pages give no hours or entry fees. Check the market's own page before you go. No official page ranks the six markets, so the best one depends on your trip: Gendarmenmarkt for the setting, Charlottenburg Palace for the lights, or the central markets for a short visit.
The best Christmas market is usually the one you can reach without a long, cold journey.
How to choose a Christmas market in Berlin
Pick by setting, length of season and how far you want to travel. Gendarmenmarkt suits a grand evening, Charlottenburg Palace suits lights and warm tents, and the central markets near the U5 suit a short visit.

The Best Travel Destinations' count of GetYourGuide listings for Berlin on 27 October 2026 found 6 of 352 experiences with Christmas, winter or mulled wine in the title, from €24.50 to €49 per person.
Doing it yourself is free and gives you more time at the stalls, so a tour is optional here. It adds warmth and a seat between markets, not access. The Christmas lights bus tour with mulled wine is from €32 per person on GetYourGuide as of 28 October 2026 and has free cancellation. It meets at Kurfürstendamm 216 and is run by DB Regio Bus Ost. The listing gives 2.5 hours and groups of up to 50, and it is offered in English and German. It includes mulled wine at the Brandenburg Gate, gingerbread and a stop at one Christmas market. It excludes entrance fees and food and drinks.
For a quieter evening, the water is the other option. A one-hour heated panorama boat on the Spree is from €18 per person as of 28 October 2026, has free cancellation and leaves from the pier at the Berlin Cathedral. Reederei Eddyline runs it. The listing gives one hour and groups of up to 70, and says it is not suitable for wheelchair users. It excludes drinks and snacks, which are sold on board, and the transfer to the pier. Compare it with other options on the berlin boat tour page.
One honest limit: a boat or bus is the wrong choice if you want to spend the evening at the stalls. Both tours leave you little time at any market, so book them for a different night.
Pro Tip Visit Gendarmenmarkt on a weekday between 11:00 and 14:00 to enter free, then walk to the Humboldt Forum and Alexanderplatz in the afternoon.
Keep your valuables safe in the crowds. The City of Berlin warns about pickpockets on buses 100, 109, 119 and 200 and on the U6, U7 and U9. See its pickpocket advice and keep bags closed and in front of you.
Where to stay for the Christmas markets in Berlin
Stay in Mitte if you want to walk to several markets, or in City West if the Charlottenburg Palace market is your main stop. Our guide on where to stay in Berlin explains the areas in full.
In December, a 4-star hotel night in Berlin cost a median €80 per room for two, against €99 across the year, in the 2026 Berlin Travel Cost Study.
Add the city's accommodation tax, which is 7.5 percent of the net room price, according to service.berlin.de. Breakfast and other extras are not part of that base.
Three hotels from our picks fit the markets. Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie is a 10-minute walk from Gendarmenmarkt, and Art'otel Berlin Mitte sits in Mitte about 0.5 miles from Museum Island. H10 Berlin Ku'Damm is in City West near Kurfürstendamm.
Stay warm with a Christmas lights bus or a heated boat
Going on your own is free and leaves more time at the stalls, so a tour only pays off for the warmth and a seat. The Christmas lights bus tour with mulled wine is from €32 per person and meets at Kurfürstendamm 216, with groups of up to 50. The one-hour heated Spree boat is from €18 per person and leaves from the Berlin Cathedral pier, with groups of up to 70. Both have free cancellation, as checked on GetYourGuide on 28 October 2026.
