Hop-on hop-off in Berlin: the buses compared

Pick the live-commentary bus if you want a real guide in English. Pick Big Bus if you want a boat or more languages.

The big difference is the commentary. Two buses have a live guide in English and German. The other four play audio, in 13 to 20 languages.

Prefer a guide on foot or a vintage bus? See all Berlin tours compared.

The Berlin Big Bus tour

Big Bus sells 24- and 48-hour tickets from €23, with audio in 14 languages. Options can add a boat cruise, a guided walk or a currywurst. Read your option before you pay.

A live-guided bus tour of Berlin

Tempelhofer Sightseeing runs both live-guided buses, from Kurfürstendamm 231. Its listing warns of detours around weak bridges and a tunnel on Unter den Linden. The stops are not affected.

Berlin hop-on hop-off bus map: where the routes go

You get a route map with the East and West bus and the Tours & Tickets bus. For the others, check the map on the listing.

Looking for Brandenburg Gate tickets? You don’t need one. The gate stands on Pariser Platz, which berlin.de says has been a pedestrian zone since 2002. The ticket you need nearby is the free registration for the Reichstag dome.

Big Bus starts on Alexanderstraße, by Alexanderplatz. So a Berlin TV Tower ticket fits before or after the ride: the tower’s entrance is opposite the S-Bahn station.

Between them, the buses pass these big sights:

  • The Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag
  • Museum Island
  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • The TV Tower
  • Potsdamer Platz
  • On some buses: Berlin Cathedral and the East Side Gallery, part of the Berlin Wall

City tour hop-on hop-off by bus and boat

Three tickets add a boat on the Spree. The bus-and-boat ticket includes a 1-hour boat; start the bus by 1 p.m. to fit both in one day.

Big Bus offers its 1-hour cruise from April to October only. On the Tours & Tickets bus, the boat is an option, and you must print the boat ticket.

Is a hop-on hop-off bus in Berlin worth it?

A hop-on hop-off bus is worth it if you want commentary and a seat on top. If you only need rides, a 24-hour AB ticket for €11.20 is cheaper than any bus here.

Public bus 100 is the do-it-yourself version. It runs from Zoologischer Garten to Alexanderplatz in about 30 minutes, past the Victory Column, the Brandenburg Gate and Berlin Cathedral. It takes a normal AB ticket, but there is no commentary.

If you mainly need rides, a Berlin Welcome Card covers buses and trains in zones A and B from €28.50 for 48 hours. Its all-inclusive version adds a hop-on hop-off ticket.
