Which Berlin guided bike tour to book

For a first visit, book the Sights & Highlights ride: from €28, at most 14 riders per guide. For history, pick the Wall and Third Reich ride or the Cold War ride, both from €35.

Check your meeting point before you go. Four rides start at Poststraße 11, and two at the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg.

The Berlin fat bike tour: Fat Tire’s 3-hour highlights ride

Looking for the Berlin fat bike tour? Fat Tire Tours runs a Berlin Highlights ride of 3 hours, in English, rain or shine. It starts at Panoramastraße 1a, the TV Tower’s address, and costs from €55.

Wall and Third Reich by bike

Two rides focus on history. The Wall and Third Reich ride covers the Wall, “ghost stations” and a huge bunker in 3 hours. The Cold War ride goes past Checkpoint Charlie and the last watchtower, about 9.3 miles (15 km).

Both stop at parts of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse is free, and its open-air grounds open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain by bike

For street life, ride through Kreuzberg. The Alternative Kreuzberg ride takes 3 hours from Poststraße 11.

The Kreuzberg & Friedrichshain ride adds a second district. It runs along the East Side Gallery and the Spree, about 10.5 miles (17 km).

Berlin bike tour routes: how far you ride

Most rides take about 3 hours. Two listings give a distance: about 9.3 miles (15 km) on the Cold War ride and about 10.5 miles (17 km) through Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Both say the pace is relaxed.

On Berlin streets, ride on the road or a bike path, not the sidewalk. Children up to 8 must ride on the sidewalk, and up to 10 may. An adult with them must be at least 16.

At dusk and in the dark, a bike needs working lights. Flashing lights are not allowed.

Segway and e-bike tours in Berlin

None of our picks is a Segway or e-bike tour. Every ride here is on a regular bike, at a relaxed pace.

If a full bike ride sounds like too much, the guided highlights ride has an option from 100 minutes.

Riding on your own

For a ride on your own, try Tempelhof Airport. The old airfield has been a free public park since 2010, and you can cycle on its old runways.

The gates close in the evening, from 5 p.m. in December and January to 10:30 p.m. in June and July.

For a bike, berlin.de lists the sharing apps Dott, Nextbike, Bolt and Lime. You can take a bike on the U-Bahn and trams with a bike ticket, from €2.70.

Booking tips for Berlin bike tours

  1. Ask for a helmet

Helmets are on request on the Sights & Highlights ride, the Wall and Third Reich ride and the Cold War ride. Fat Tire provides one, but it is optional.

  2. Bring a light if you rent

On a shared bike after dark, you need working lights. Flashing lights are not allowed.

  3. Tips are extra

Every ride here lists tips as not included. Bring some cash for the guide.

  4. Rest your legs on the water

After a ride, a boat on the Spree is an easy way to keep sightseeing. See Berlin boat tours.
