Days the palace is closed
The King opens the palace to visitors as much as he can. In 2026 it is open on more than 230 days, from 10:00 on open days.
The palace is also used for state events, so it can close on a normal day. Its site shows a calendar six months ahead and a “now open” sign. Check both before you go.
The palace on Dam Square
The palace stands on Dam Square, in the old center. The palace says it is a 10-minute walk from Centraal Station.
Trams run from Centraal to the Dam stop too. Tram 2 is one of them.
Madame Tussauds is on the same square, at Dam 20.
The National Monument on Dam Square
The National Monument also stands on Dam Square. It is the Netherlands’ most important memorial to World War II. It is about 22 meters (72 feet) high.
Queen Juliana unveiled it on 4 May 1956. It is the center of the National Remembrance Day ceremony each 4 May.
Is a Royal Palace Amsterdam tour worth it?
For most people, no. The ticket already includes an audio tour in 8 languages, plus a children’s version in Dutch and English.
The palace runs guided tours only for group bookings: €105 on weekdays and €135 at weekends, per group. The private tour on GetYourGuide is the one way to book a guide just for you.
Free entry for under-18s makes it one of the cheapest things to do in Amsterdam with teens.
