The I amsterdam City Card also gets you in free, but you still book a start time.

What you see in Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum shows 800 years of Dutch art and history in about 8,000 objects, its ticket listing says.

The big draw is Rembrandt's The Night Watch. The Gallery of Honour holds the most famous Dutch masterpieces.

You may take photos and videos, but not with a flash or a selfie stick.

Under-18s get in free, which makes it one of the cheaper things to do in Amsterdam with teens.

Is a Rijksmuseum guided tour worth it?

For most visitors, no. The museum's own multimedia tour costs €6.50 and is enough to find the highlights. It is not part of the GetYourGuide entry ticket.

A guide is worth it if you want the story behind the paintings. The 1.5-hour Golden Age tour covers Rembrandt, Vermeer and the Dutch Golden Age, with entry included.

That tour is new on GetYourGuide, so it has no reviews yet. It starts 10 to 20 minutes after the set time, while the groups form.

Amsterdam Rijksmuseum tours with a canal cruise or bus

Two combos add a second sight to your museum ticket. One adds a 1-hour canal cruise with a GPS audio guide. The other adds a 24-hour hop-on hop-off bus.

Neither combo can be cancelled or moved. Buy one only if you would take that cruise or bus anyway.
