Do you need tickets or a reservation for Oktoberfest?

Free
entry to grounds and tents
2 liters
usual minimum per reserved seat, plus half a chicken

No. Entry to the Oktoberfest grounds and the beer tents is free. You only book if you want a sure table.

Reservations are for seats inside the tents. The beer gardens outside the tents cannot be reserved.

Oktoberfest Munich reservations: how booking a table works

You book with each tent, mostly online and sometimes by phone. For 2027, most tents open bookings by spring, in April or May at the latest. Each tent posts its start date on its own website.

A reserved table comes with a minimum spend. In the main aisle, that is usually two liters of beer and half a roast chicken per person.

If you can't use a booking, the festival runs an official resale portal. It resells tables at the original price. The festival's reservations page on oktoberfest.de links to it.

How long Oktoberfest in Germany runs, and what it costs

Oktoberfest runs for 16 days. In 2027 it is on from September 18 to October 3.

In 2026, a liter of beer cost €14.80 to €15.90. The tent hosts set the price, not the city. A liter of water cost about €11 on average.

The big tents open at 10 am on weekdays and 9 am on weekends and on October 3. The last beer is poured at 10:30 pm. Two tents, Käfer Wiesn-Schänke and Kufflers Weinzelt, may stay open until 1 am.

To get there, take the U4 or U5 to Theresienwiese; our guide to Munich public transport explains the tickets. For a bed, the hotels near the main station are closest; see where to stay in Munich.

Oktoberfest 2026 tickets: the festival is over, here is 2027

Oktoberfest 2026 ran from September 19 to October 4, 2026, and it is over. Every price here is for the 2027 festival or for tours that run all year.

Which Munich Oktoberfest tent suits you

Pick a tent by its beer and its hours. There are 14 big tents, plus small tents and the Oide Wiesn tents.

Only beer from six Munich breweries is poured: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, Spaten and Staatliches Hofbräuhaus.

The big beer tents at Oktoberfest Munich

Prices differ a little from tent to tent. A liter cost €14.90 at the Augustiner-Festhalle in 2026, €15.80 at Paulaner and Hofbräu, and €15.90 at Löwenbräu.

Kufflers Weinzelt pours only wheat beer, at €18.40 a liter. It is also one of the two tents open until 1 am.

Beer prices per liter in 2026, from the festival's own list
TentPrice per liter
Augustiner-Festhalle€14.90
Paulaner€15.80
Hofbräu€15.80
Löwenbräu€15.90

Outside the festival: the same beer in the beer halls

Outside the 16 days, the same Munich beer pours all year in the beer halls, and the Hofbräuhaus Munich is the best known of them.

When to go and how to get a seat without a booking

25%
unreserved seats, Monday to Friday
40%
unreserved on weekends until 3 pm

Come early on a weekday; that is our advice for the best walk-in chance. From Monday to Friday, 25% of the seats in the big tents are never reserved.

On weekends and public holidays, 40% stay free until 3 pm, then 25%. Käfer, Kufflers and the small tents do not follow this rule.

Some tents close their doors at lunchtime on weekends and on October 3 when they are full. Expect to share a table with strangers.

Weekdays: 25% of big-tent seats are unreserved. Weekends: 40% until 3 pm.

What else is there to do at Oktoberfest

Watch the first keg being tapped. On opening day, the Lord Mayor taps it in the Schottenhamel tent at 12 noon.

The grounds open at 10 am Monday to Friday and at 9 am on weekends. They close at 11:30 pm most nights and at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

For the history of the festival, two of our picks visit the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum.

Coming in winter instead? December is Munich's other big season; see the Munich Christmas markets.

Going to Oktoberfest with kids

Yes, you can bring kids, but plan around the stroller rule. Strollers are allowed until 6 pm, but never on Saturdays or on October 3. Baby back carriers are always allowed.

The festival's children's page lists family days, but the dates shown look like an older year. Check that page again for 2027.

Note that the evening tent seats on our top pick are for ages 16 and up.

Booking tips for Oktoberfest

  1. Know what a "ticket" is

Entry is free. What you pay for is a reserved seat, a tour or a bed. Check each listing for what it includes and what costs extra.

  2. If your plans change

All five picks show free cancellation on GetYourGuide. Read each tour's own terms before you book. For a table you booked with a tent, the official resale portal resells it at the original price.

  3. Pack a small bag

Bags may be no bigger than 20 × 15 × 10 cm. Larger bags and backpacks are not allowed on the grounds.

  4. Bring cash

The top pick's listing asks you to bring cash. Food and drinks beyond its vouchers cost extra.

  5. Book your bed early

Festival nights push hotel prices up, so see what a whole Munich trip costs before you book.
