The Munich Residenz: the royal palace in the old town

The Munich Residenz is the former royal palace of Bavaria, in the heart of the old town. A ticket gets you into its museum, its Treasury and its Rococo theater.

To see the rest of the old town with a guide, look at the walks that start on Marienplatz.

Inside the Residenz palace in Munich: rooms, Treasury and theater

The Residenz Museum is the palace rooms. The Treasury holds the crown jewels, a private tour listing says. The Cuvilliés Theatre is the small Rococo court theater.

Residenz Museum Munich tickets and cost

The Residenz Museum costs €10. For most first visits, the €15 ticket with the Treasury is the better buy.

Under 18s go free. Reduced prices are in brackets below.

The Cuvilliés Theatre has shorter hours. Until March 27, it opens Monday to Saturday from 2 pm to 5 pm, and on Sundays and holidays from 10 am.

For a private guide who also covers the old town, compare our Munich tours page.

Hofgarten Munich: no tickets needed

The Court Garden (Hofgarten) next to the palace is free to enter. So is the fountain machinery.

Concerts at the Residenz: which hall to pick

Pick the Court Chapel for a short, cheaper concert. Pick the Cuvilliés Theatre for a special night.

A concert ticket gets you into the concert only, not the museum.

  • Court Chapel (from €39 or €43): 1 hour.
  • Max-Joseph Hall (from €69): 2 hours with a break.
  • Cuvilliés Theatre (from €98): 2 hours with an interval.

  1. Buy the €15 ticket

The Residenz Museum plus the Treasury costs €15. That is only €5 more than the museum alone.

Concert tickets cover the concert only. Buy a museum ticket as well if you want to see the rooms.

  3. Skip the ticket office line

The guided tour includes pre-booked tickets. They skip the ticket office line only.

  4. If your plans change

All six picks show free cancellation. Read the tour's own cancellation terms on GetYourGuide before you book.
