Toronto Winter Attractions: 8 Picks for Cold Days

Toronto winter attractions include the CN Tower, which is open all year, the Distillery Winter Village from 12 November and free skating at Nathan Phillips Square. Eight picks follow, with the dates, hours and prices each place states, plus the indoor plans for the coldest days.

Winter in Toronto means short days, cold wind and snow on about 35 days between November and March. Most big sights still open, and many hold their best events in winter. Plan each day around one indoor anchor with set hours, then add a short outdoor stop in daylight.

1. CN Tower: open all year, with a view in every season

The CN Tower is open all year, so it is the easiest winter plan on this list. The tower's hours page lists the observation levels as open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. No special hours appear for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day.

The Main Observation Level has adjusted hours on 3, 6, 14, 15, 19 and 25 November and on 1 December. The Lower Observation Level, 360 Restaurant and The Top are not affected. An adult ticket for the Main and Lower Observation Levels is CA$47 before tax, and the ticket page says tickets are final sale. Our CN Tower page has the hours, prices and the route in more detail.

The views depend on the sky. Final sale means you cannot swap a ticket if clouds roll in, so pick a day with a clear forecast. The hours page calls the EdgeWalk "open for the season" and gives no dates, so ask before you plan on it in winter.

Pro Tip Check the hours page for your exact date, because the Main Observation Level has adjusted hours on seven dates between 3 November and 1 December.

2. Distillery Winter Village: the Christmas market from 12 November

The 2026 Distillery Winter Village runs from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, as its FAQ states. Entry is free before 4 p.m. every day, and all day on Monday to Wednesday through 13 December. You must be inside the gates before 4 p.m. to use the free hours on days that need a ticket.

At other times you need a ticket. Tickets start at CA$16 plus HST and a service charge. Children aged 9 and under enter free without a ticket. All tickets are non-refundable, but you can give yours to someone else. The FAQ does not say what happens on Christmas Day, so check the official page before you plan around 25 December.

The afternoon is the cheap way in. Go before 4 p.m., walk the market, and leave if the evening crowd needs a ticket you did not buy.

3. Skating at Nathan Phillips Square: free to music from 28 November

The City of Toronto lists free skating to music at Nathan Phillips Square from 28 November 2026 to 7 January 2027, from 5 to 10 p.m. The program is the Cavalcade of Lights, and its City page describes opening night as a tree and square lighting ceremony with main stage shows and a figure skating showcase.

Drop-in skating at the City's outdoor rinks is free, and the City's skating page says the rinks usually open around late November and close in March. On 30 October 2026 the page still said the rinks were closed for the season. Skate rentals at Nathan Phillips Square run in the winter season only, and the page gives no rental price.

The City also lends skates and helmets for free at select locations through its Skate Lending Library. No reservation is needed, but the locations change, so look at the City page for your dates.

4. Casa Loma: a castle for a cold afternoon

Casa Loma is the best single indoor sight for a winter afternoon. The castle is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last guest admission at 4:30 p.m., as its visit page states. Adult admission is CA$45 before HST. The Lower Gardens and the Terrace were closed for the season on 30 October, so plan to stay inside.

Casa Loma's holiday program happens each December. The program has a 40-foot tree in the Great Hall, ten more trees by Canadian designers, a visit with Santa and live shows. The page gives no 2026 dates or prices, so call 416 923 1171 or check the ticket page before you plan around it.

By subway, ride to Dupont station and walk two blocks north on Spadina Avenue. Then climb the 110 Baldwin Steps or walk up the hill on the west side of the castle, as the directions page explains. Parking on site is a flat CA$20 per vehicle.

The Casa Loma entry ticket on GetYourGuide is listed from €29 per person and rated 4.63 from 3,549 reviews. Casa Loma runs it. The ticket covers the Sir Henry Pellatt documentary, the Hollywood Film Gallery, an antique car display and an optional audio guide app. The listing offers free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. Casa Loma's own pages state no refund policy, so read the listing's terms before you book.

5. The PATH: more than 30 km of walkways out of the wind

The PATH is a mostly underground walkway network of more than 30 kilometres in downtown Toronto. On a freezing day it is the best way to cross the core without going outside. The City's PATH page says it reaches six subway stations, three major department stores, nine hotels and Union Station. More than 75 buildings connect to it, with 1,200 restaurants, shops and services.

The network also links to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Scotiabank Arena, the CF Toronto Eaton Centre, City Hall and Metro Hall. The page offers a PATH map to download and gives no opening hours. Each building sets its own hours, so check a route before you rely on it late in the evening. Our getting around Toronto guide covers the subway stations the PATH reaches.

The routes are hard to follow the first time. A 2-hour guided walk through the PATH is listed from €27 per person and rated 4.88 from 112 reviews. Buzz Tours runs it as a small group, and it meets at 65 Front St W. The listing says it is not suitable for children under 10, wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments or people over 80. It offers free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead.

6. Ripley's Aquarium and the Hockey Hall of Fame: indoor plans for the coldest days

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada and the Hockey Hall of Fame both sit near Union Station and keep fixed winter hours. The Hockey Hall of Fame is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter. Its hours page lists closures on 24 December, 25 December and 1 January. General admission for ages 14 to 64 is $29.95 plus taxes.

The aquarium's early closure schedule shows closing times of 5 p.m. on 25 November and 3 December, 8 p.m. on 26 November, 6 p.m. on 8 December and 4 p.m. on 14 December. Opening is 9 a.m. on those days, and the page gives no standard closing time. An after-5 ticket is no use on 25 November, 3 December or 14 December, because the aquarium closes by 5 p.m.

The Sharks After Dark ticket is for visits after 5 p.m. and is listed from €30 per person. Guests rate it 4.61 from 525 reviews. It runs about 2 hours and is operated by Ripley's Aquarium of Canada. The ticket covers the stingray touch pools and nine galleries, but not food or drinks. The aquarium's page calls the offer "Save $5 After 5" and says the experience matches the daytime visit.

Our indoor list, including museum of illusions toronto tickets, has more plans for very cold or wet days.

7. St. Lawrence Market: a warm food stop with short holiday hours

St. Lawrence Market is a warm place to eat on a cold day, but its holiday hours are short. The South Market is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays, as the market's hours page lists.

The 2026 holiday hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve. The market is closed on 25 December, 26 December and 1 January. Eat there before 24 December or after 2 January if you want the full market. Our Toronto food tours page lists guided tastings for the days it is closed.

8. Niagara Falls in winter: lights and fireworks, with fewer rides

Niagara Falls in winter is a day of lights, big views and a few open rides. The Winter Festival of Lights runs from 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, according to Niagara Falls Tourism. It is free, and displays run from 5 p.m. to midnight along an 8-kilometre route. Fireworks start at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from 14 November to 12 December, and every night from 18 December to 2 January. A longer show runs at midnight on 31 December.

Our Niagara Falls page covers the day trip in full. Journey Behind the Falls is listed as open year round. The page gives no winter hours. The Niagara SkyWheel is also open year round, with heated gondolas, and an adult ride is CA$15 plus HST on its attraction page.

The honest limit is the boat. Niagara Parks lists Niagara City Cruises as seasonal from April to November, and the operator says December sailings depend on the weather. Plan the Falls from the shore in winter, not from the water.

The winter Niagara Falls tour with an attractions package is listed from €60 per person for 9 hours. It is rated 4.77 from 66 reviews, and Queen Tour Niagara Falls Tours runs it. It includes pickup from 12 listed locations in downtown Toronto and Mississauga, Journey Behind the Falls with a skip-the-line ticket, about 3 hours in Niagara Falls and a maple syrup tasting. Lunch is not included, and the listing gives no group size. It offers free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead.

Is winter cheaper in Toronto?

Yes for a bed, and not for the events. In January 2027, a 3-star hotel night in Toronto cost a median $161 (Canadian dollars) per room, against $224 in August 2027, in the 2026 Toronto Travel Cost Study of prices read in October 2026.

Winter Village evening tickets, the CN Tower and Casa Loma cost the same in winter as in summer, so the saving comes from the room. If you want a warm base, stay near the indoor sights. Le Germain Hotel Maple Leaf Square is a design hotel on Bremner Boulevard, steps from Scotiabank Arena and about 0.7 km from the CN Tower. The Omni King Edward Hotel is a historic hotel on King Street East, about 500 m from St. Lawrence Market. For more areas, see where to stay in Toronto.

The Best Travel Destinations' count of GetYourGuide listings for the Toronto area in October 2026 found 14 whose titles point to winter, Christmas, festive lights, skiing or snowshoeing, out of 182. Most are Christmas lights bus tours, winter Niagara trips, ski shuttles and snowshoe hikes. The listings with fewer than 10 reviews have thin ratings, so read the tour page before you book one.

Key Takeaway The Distillery Winter Village, the skating at Nathan Phillips Square and the Niagara Winter Festival of Lights all run between 28 November and 3 January. The CN Tower, Casa Loma and the PATH stay open all winter.

A cold day in Toronto goes best with one warm anchor and one short walk outside.

FAQ

Is cn tower open on christmas?

The CN Tower's hours page says the tower is open all year and lists no special hours or closures for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. The observation levels run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. Tickets are final sale, so check the hours page for your date before you buy.

Is clifton hill open on christmas?

The Niagara SkyWheel on Clifton Hill is listed as open year round, from 10 a.m. to midnight on most days. Its page gives no Christmas Day hours and says hours can change without notice. Call 905-358-4793 or use the page's upcoming property hours link before you go. The pages read do not say whether the street's other attractions open on 25 December.

Is clifton hill open in the winter?

Only the Niagara SkyWheel is stated to be open year round, with heated gondolas. The pages read do not say whether the other Clifton Hill attractions run in winter, so check each one before you plan around it.

Is journey behind the falls open in winter?

Yes. Niagara Parks lists Journey Behind the Falls as open year round, but its page gives no winter hours. Adult admission is CA$33 and the visit takes about 60 minutes. A covered, heated viewing platform is planned for spring 2027.

Is Toronto cold in november?

Mildly cold. Environment Canada's 1991 to 2020 normals show a November daily average of 5.2 degrees Celsius and an average daily high of 8.1 degrees. Snow of 0.2 cm or more falls on about 3 days in November, so pack a warm coat and a rain layer.

How many snow days in Toronto?

Environment Canada's 1991 to 2020 normals count days with at least 0.2 cm of snowfall at 3.0 in November, 7.0 in December, 11.3 in January, 8.4 in February and 5.2 in March. That adds up to about 35 days between November and March.

Is parking free on holidays in Toronto?

Not as a rule. Green P's car park pages say regular rates apply on holidays unless a car park posts something different, and some lots have their own holiday rates. Read the sign at your lot or the Green P app before you leave your car. Those pages block automated reading, so this comes from a search excerpt.

Conclusion

Pick one warm anchor for each day and one short stop outside. Use the CN Tower, Casa Loma or the PATH as the anchor, and add the Winter Village or the skating in the evening. Check the closing dates on 24 and 25 December and 1 January, because the Hockey Hall of Fame and St. Lawrence Market shut on those days. Book a Niagara Falls day only if you want the lights, and plan for a short day out there.
