  • A thrill: EdgeWalk, the walk outside, from CA$199 on cntower.ca.
  • A special dinner: the 360 Restaurant. Your meal includes the observation levels.

Cheap CN Tower tickets: what costs less

Youth (6 to 13) and seniors (65+) pay CA$34 for General Admission. Children 3 to 5 pay CA$18. Children 2 and under go free.

The CityPASS includes the tower too, with Ripley's and 3 more sights. A dinner at the 360 Restaurant also includes entry, so you skip the ticket.

Where each ticket is booked: GetYourGuide or cntower.ca

Our three picks book on GetYourGuide. Everything else in the table books on cntower.ca. The General Admission ticket here is listed as an official ticket, with the CN Tower as the operator.

The Top add-on, the Flex, Premier and VIP tickets and EdgeWalk are sold only on cntower.ca. The EdgeWalk booking links go to tickets.cntower.ca. The CN Tower's own site advises buying only from the CN Tower.

The cancel rules differ. Tickets bought on cntower.ca are final sale: no refund, no exchange. Our three picks can be cancelled for free up to 24 hours ahead.

Tours and combos that include CN Tower entry

Two of our picks put a tour and the tower in one booking. The walking tour takes 1.5 hours and starts at St. Lawrence Market. The night tour takes about 3 hours, with hotel pickup downtown.

The Toronto CityPASS also covers the tower. CityPASS lists an adult pass at just under US$99 plus tax. It is valid for 9 days. You must visit the CN Tower and Ripley's Aquarium, plus 3 of 5 other sights.

With a CityPASS you still reserve a CN Tower time in the My CityPASS app. It covers the Main and Lower levels. The Top is not included; it costs CA$12 plus tax at a kiosk on the Main level.

What you see on each level: Main Observation Level, Glass Floor, Outdoor Terrace and The Top

The Main Observation Level is 346 m up, at 114 storeys. The Lower Observation Level is just below, at 342 m and 113 storeys.

Together the two levels hold the Glass Floor, the OverView spots, where you lean out over the city, the Outdoor Terrace and Artmosphere, an art show by Canadian and Indigenous artists.

The Top is 33 storeys above the Main level. cntower.ca calls it "the highest observation platform in the Western Hemisphere". Older guides call it the SkyPod. It is a CA$12 add-on, and free for wheelchair users.

Pictures of the CN Tower: the Glass Floor and the Outdoor Terrace

For pictures, stand on the Glass Floor and shoot straight down. The Outdoor Terrace lets you take photos in the open air. Pick a clear day for the lake and the islands.

EdgeWalk: the outside walk

EdgeWalk is a walk around the outside of the tower, from CA$199 on cntower.ca. The whole visit takes about 90 minutes. About 30 minutes of that is the walk itself.

Arrive 30 minutes early. Teens 13 to 17 need a parent or guardian to give written consent at check-in. Walks do not run in storms or very high winds.

Your ticket includes a certificate, a video, two printed photos and entry to the rest of the tower, The Top included. It is not refundable. You can change the date or time 72 hours or more ahead, if there is space.

Wheelchair-accessible walks are booked by phone on 416 601 3833.

360 Restaurant and where to eat in the tower

A meal at the 360 Restaurant includes the observation levels after you eat. Booking a table at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower? You do not need a separate entry ticket.

There is a minimum spend on food: CA$75 per adult and CA$40 per child aged 4 to 12. Lunch runs 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Dinner runs 4:30 to 9:45 p.m.

The restaurant's page says you cannot visit the levels before your meal. The Top costs extra. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead.

Food from VUE Bistro is not part of the General Admission ticket.

Is the CN Tower worth it? Queues, weather and best time to go

Yes, on a clear day, for a first visit. That is our advice: the view is the reason to go, and clouds can hide it.

Your ticket is for a set date and time, but you can stay the rest of the day. You skip the ticket line, but everyone still goes through security. Waits can be long on busy weekends and holidays.

CityPASS advises going before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. The levels open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. On some days in November and December the Main level keeps shorter hours, so check cntower.ca.

Worried about clouds? A cntower.ca ticket cannot be refunded. The Flex ticket lets you pick the time of day. The GetYourGuide ticket can be cancelled up to 24 hours ahead.

The CN Tower does not say you can see Niagara Falls from the top. The Falls are about 130 km away, so do not plan around it. For the Falls themselves, see our guide to Niagara Falls attractions.

How to get there: 290 Bremner Boulevard, Toronto, ON, Canada

The CN Tower is at 290 Bremner Boulevard, between Rogers Centre and Ripley's Aquarium. Union Station is the nearest station, for the TTC subway, GO trains and the UP Express.

From Union, walk the SkyWalk. You can also cross the John Street Bridge. Cars can drop you off on Bremner Boulevard. Parking around the tower is paid.

All elevators are accessible, and wheelchairs are free on request. The entrance for people with limited mobility is south of the main entrance off Bremner Boulevard.

Our guide to getting around Toronto covers TTC fares and the trains from the airport.

Quick facts: CN Tower height, age and name

553 m
to the antenna tip
346 m
Main Observation Level
1976
opened to the public

The CN Tower is 553.33 m (1,815.5 ft) tall, to the top of its antenna. Its History page rounds that to 553 m.

It opened to the public on June 26, 1976. It was the world's tallest freestanding structure for more than 30 years, until Burj Khalifa in Dubai passed it.

"CN" first stood for Canadian National, the government-owned railway that built it. Today the tower says the name means "Canada's National Tower".

It was built because older towers were too short. They could not send radio and TV signals over the new tall buildings. Canadian National sold the tower in 1995 to Canada Lands Company, a federal Crown corporation.

What to do nearby

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is right next door, at 288 Bremner Boulevard. Both the tower and the aquarium are required stops on the CityPASS.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is at Brookfield Place, 30 Yonge Street.

For time on the water, see Toronto harbour cruises. CityPASS lists the City Cruises harbour tour boarding at Queen's Quay Terminal.
