Tour or ticket? When a NASA tour from Houston makes sense
Book a tour if you have no car. Book the ticket if you drive.
The cheapest bundles cost from €72 with the shuttle. The ticket alone costs from €27.
If you have a car, our guide to Houston Space Center tickets compares six ways in, from €27.
A tour also takes care of the drive: Space Center Houston is far south of downtown.
Johnson Space Center tours with transport from downtown
Seven of the eight tours include a shuttle from downtown. Most leave from 800 Capitol St; the city tour leaves from 1302 Dallas St.
Each gives you about 5 hours at the center. The tunnel tours add a walk downtown after NASA.
The private tour is different: it has no transport, so you drive to it.
A NASA Johnson Space Center tour with an expert guide
Three tours put a guide at your side inside: the expert-guide tour, the "Grand Slam" and the Spanish tour.
The expert-guide tour costs from €98. Its guide speaks English.
The NASA tram tour in Houston: what every ticket includes
Every ticket includes the free NASA tram tours. There are three:
- Astronaut Training Facility: boarding pass from Guest Services on arrival.
- Rocket Park: no pass, first come, first served.
- NASA Campus Tour: timed boarding pass from Guest Services.
How long the Johnson Space Center tram tour takes
Each tram tour takes 60 to 90 minutes. The last one leaves two hours before closing.
Trams are open-air, include some walking and depend on the weather.
Is the Houston Space Center Mission Control tour worth it?
Yes, for space fans. It is the only way into the room that guided Apollo 11 to the Moon.
But it costs extra, and NASA can cancel it for bad weather. On these listings, the Mission Control part is non-refundable.
Spots are limited. The center advised booking about two weeks ahead. The tour operators ask for 48 to 72 hours' notice to add it.
Is there a Houston Space Center VIP tour?
No, not right now. The center's VIP tour page says VIP tours are currently unavailable.
Tips for a NASA tour from Houston
